« Back                                                   900SSIE - 100 HP?

I guess I’m what they call a “Bambi” (born again motor bike idiot) as I didn’t pass my test til 07 and this is my first bike. I’ve always hankered after an SS and ended up buying a 91 750 – after which I changed the entire bike except for the tank and the calipers.

Not sure why I changed it but I think it’s because I love the style of the 916 but wanted the simplicity of the 2 valve engine – hence the hybrid. To cut a long story short I tokk the front half of the SS frame and added the back half of the 916 so I could have the underseat pipes – here’s a pic of the bare frame:

I was then offered a severely battered 900SS ie from which I salvaged the engine and loom. After searching the web I found Chris’s site and contacted him with regards to giving the heads a quick port tidy up – after much discussion he ended up porting the heads properly and getting motor balanced for me. After several weeks cleaning and painting the motor came together – spec as follows:

Valves – Standard but modified, Heads – ported by CJS, Full crank/flywheel balance by CJS, Bore – standard, Pistons – JE 11.5/1 comp, Squish – 1mm,  Cams – Standard 900ie, Cam timing – 112 degrees, Exhaust – MHP hand built, Cans – cored R1 06, Injection – standard, Inlet tract – My own Ram Pipes (pics below) and K&N pod filters, Oil cooler and thermostat from Think Automotive, Swing Arm – Metmatchex, Shock – Hagen, Forks – 916, Yoke – Cyclecat, Fairings – Late 916, Dash – Koso R1-n, Wheels – Forged PVM 20 spoke, Master cylinders – 749.

We were very pleased with the motor as it is pretty much standard apart from the ports , pistons and a careful blueprint  – 97bhp and 65lb of torque  - and it pulls like a train and handles like a dream.  Not bad for just 900cc’s

When building the bike I wanted it to look like a real bike and not a bitsa this and bitsa that – I hope I succeeded. Here’s a few picks of the beastie including Chris’s flow charts for stock valve size and dyno graph. If only the limiter was extended 500rpm – it would have made 100 for sure.
