What is Engine Blueprinting?
Engine blueprinting is the process of setting every tolerance in the engine
to its optimum value. Engines from the production line are often quite
“baggy” with gear changes feeling notchy from incorrect shimming, vibration
from poorly balanced cranks, rough low speed running from valve clearances
being too large - generally speaking the performance of an engine can be
improved dramatically.
After blueprinting and very fine crank balancing, gear changes will feel more
positive and vibrations will be virtually eradicated, reducing strain on the
engine, aiding longevity. Valves will seal correctly, piston to head
clearance (squish) will be optimised and cams will be finely timed bringing
your bike’s performance right up to scratch, although the improvement in
your engine’s horse power does depend upon how the engine was set up before
blueprinting. You will be given a certificate confirming the engines
specification which could help the resale value of your bike!
You get ...
All components cleaned and inspected,
clean sludge from crank, polish journals and fit with specification bearings,
shim crank, primary and secondary shafts and selector
drum, check piston ring end gap, set squish, hone cylinders, lap valves,
set valve clearances, dial cams to specs, check piston to valve clearance when fitting cams big
valves and skimming
Performance parts such as pistons, big bore kits, cams etc, supplied by the
customer can be fitted free whilst your engine is blueprinted or having a
super set-up. All you need to do is drop them in with your engine.
Alternatively parts can be purchased by CJS. We aren’t interested in
making your pockets lighter through expensive parts – CJS just wants to do
the right job at the right price.
Gas
flowing can also be included as part of a package deal offering substantial
savings.
Super Setup
The
super set-up is basically a top end blueprint and throttle body set up.
This package will give you a more crisp and responsive engine with horse
power gain.
We will...
Clean and check components, set squish,
hone cylinders, lap valves, set valve clearances, dials cams to choice of specification,
adjust throttle pot and balance throttle bodies, set CO levels
Big
bore kits, cams, high compression pistons etc can be fitted as part of the
package. Most customers choose a gas flow, skim and Power Commander
(PC3) set up to even further enhance their engine as a package deal.
Cylinder Head Optimisation
Cylinder heads optimised by flow bench using the latest digital software.
Tricks
Through experience CJS knows that each engine has its own little area where
tricks can be applied. These include, optional cam settings, welding
up combustion chambers, re-shaping to increase compression ratios and, in
some cases, heads can be sufficiently skimmed to give a substantial increase
in compression and power without purchasing expensive components.
Whilst blueprinting your engine these tricks can be provided at little extra
cost. This can be discussed during your initial consultation on
specification requirements.
